As I sit here today next to my girlfriend with her bald head and her beautiful face, her head wrapped in a colorful pair of pants that she creatively made into a scarf. Seated in her amazing sanctuary she calls home, amid the incredible surroundings that her talents have put together in decorating, design and remodeling, (@sanctuaryliving.life) the word that comes to mind is STRENGTH!!! A perfect subject for this blog! Strength can show up in so many different forms and for so many different reasons, this present situation that she finds herself in has brought out a whole different kind of strength. I am not referring to strength as the warrior she has been in the fight, but the strength she has found to keep showing up for herself. Day in and day out, waking up every morning and living the day as it shows up for her. How she feels physically, how she feels mentally, the shakes she drinks to keep her body healthy and strong, the injections she gives herself to help slow tumor growth, sitting for a whole day hooked up to IVs for treatment she needs to fight this diagnosis. No one can know what she is thinking or feeling, putting on the brave face and attitude to see each day through, whatever comes her way.
The losses she has had, her hair, her energy, her clarity (on day 4 or 5 after treatment), control over her body...As a woman, coming to the knowing that women are so much more than their hair, makeup, figure, female parts, there is a soul inside with so much more than we could ever imagine. Dreams, desires, intelligence, determination, sensitivity, compassion, knowing, feeling, I could go on and on with the incredible traits of a woman. A whole different kind of strength, a strength she doesn't or shouldn't have to prove, a strength that isn't competitive, a strength that isn't judgmental, a strength she doesn't need to show others all the time. Just an inner knowing of who she is and what makes her who she is, what she wants and how to get it, self love and admiration. My friend we are so much more than we even give our selves credit for.
So in honor of my friend, may we all start showing up for ourselves each and every day, in every way possible, being that beautiful woman we are deep inside that incredible soul of ours. Nurturing her, revering her, nourishing her, loving her, inspiring her, challenging her...Savor YOUR Soul.
