A Dessert You Can Feel Good Eating

Guilty desserts or healthy desserts, what is the difference??? I think we all have felt guilty at times when it comes to indulging into desserts. What is it about the desserts that make us feel this way? Much of the ingredients that go into making the desserts are what makes us feel the guilt or makes us hesitate in putting some on our plates. That sweet tooth we get after consuming a hearty savory meal, just a little something sweet to top off the experience. The most important thing to remember is that sugar in excess can challenge your body to work overtime to process and store. Sugar is sugar, but if you can consume desserts that are sweetened with more organic natural forms of sweeteners then you body has an easier time working with it. Be conscious of what sugars you are eating, and at best make your desserts yourself then you will know exactly what sugars and how much you are consuming. Honey, agave nectar, coconut nectar, maple syrup are all better choices for sweeteners, a little can go a long way.

Frozen Strawberry Cups

1 cup almonds (raw or roasted, no salt)

7 dates, pitted

1 cup water

1 ½ cups cashews (soaked in water)

1 ½ cup strawberries

¼ cup maple syrup

⅓ cup coconut oil

12 muffin cups placed in muffin pan

Directions:

Blend the first three ingredients together and press into the bottom of each muffin cup, wash out blender.

Blend the next four ingredients together (I usually slice some strawberries and lay them on top of the bottom layer) then I fill the remainder of each cup with the blended strawberry cashew mixture.
