Illness

I am going to start this blog by saying a big hello and that I have missed sharing with you all. Life has unapologetically gotten in the way of my plans, work, home but most importantly my body!!!! Between the busies os the holidays, traveling for work, traveling to move my son back down to Southern California, and yes, COVID!!! I feel as if I have lost a month out of my life. Not just the illness, but due to all that was going on in my life. The biggest positive from it all is that I had some well needed DOWN time. Myself, as I am sure this rings true for a lot of you, is that I don't do down time real well, or let me rephrase this, being forced to being out of commission, not able to see through my work, home, and personal responsibilities.

I am here to say that we all need to rest and restore as often as needed. Don't wait to be ill in order to capture some down time, to rest and restore your body with all that it needs in order to function at it's full potential. Illness definition- A disease or period of sickness affecting the body and the mind. Yes, very important to realize that the mind is affected by illness, as well as the body. All the more reason to pay attention to yourself, the signals that your body and mind are sending you when it comes to not feeling well, we all are given signals when things don't feel right, WE need to pay attention to these signals!!! My two favorite words Nourish and Nurture, you need both!! Nourish your body with nutrition that your body needs, fresh fruits and vegetables, protein, carbohydrates, fats.

Gut Biome says we need a variety of foods in our diet in oder to have a healthy gut, so that the food we eat can be metabolized efficiently, for our bodies to keep a strong immune system and antibodies. An antibody is a blood protein produced in response to and counteracting a specific antigen. Antibodies combine chemically with substances which the body recognizes as alien, such as bacteria, viruses, and foreign substances in the blood. With all that we are surrounded with since COVID has invaded our lives, along with the variants, keeping ourselves as healthy and strong mentally and physically is most important in fighting this disease. Even if you do get sick, but you have a strong immune system, getting yourself through the symptoms and discomfort, and ridding the body of the bacteria can be a much quicker process. Strong mind, strong body, they need to work together.

This is a great time and a great reminder to clean up your habits, pay attention to your body, nourish your mind, and nurture yourself inside and out. Stay away from all the things that you know are not good for you. Guilty pleasures, of course, in moderation, how many times have you heard that?!?! If moderation is too difficult then you may need to give a few things up altogether, it shouldn't be too hard if you know they aren't good for you personally. There are so many opinions out there, so much conversation, so much written and read... This is all about you and what works for you, what makes you feel good and what doesn't feel good. The right foods, enough sleep, the best eating habits, enough exercise, surrounding yourself with people that support you and lift you up, a happy home and a full life.
