It has been my practice, starting about 4 years ago, to choose a word at the beginning of each new year that resonates with me. Sometimes it is a word that represents something I want to work on through the year, or a word that represents something I want more of in my life, a word that I want to be or hold on too. Finding the word for the year takes some mind clearing, keeping myself open so that I can hear what my heart is telling me. I know several other people that do this same thing as at the new year arrives, I love sharing this with others.
By choosing one word as my focus for the year, it doesn't exclude other things I may want to work on for the year, nor do I leave it behind when the next new year shows up. By choosing one word as my focus, this word becomes part of my life, a word that becomes my way of life without having to think about it. That is why I have this practice, it helps contribute to my growth, my happiness, my being the best version of myself. I am sure you can choose more than one word for the year, 12 months is a long time, but with everything else going on in our lives, one word seems to be enough to concentrate on and work toward.
My words in the past have been, BALANCE, GRACE, INTENTION, and this year my word is PEACE. Through balance, grace and intention, my goal is to settle into some peace for myself and the world around me. To find that place within myself to sit in peace, knowing who I am, what I am about and where I want to go. It is all about the knowing and feeling of peace, recognizing when it is not there and being able to get there effortlessly.
Maybe this year it might be fun for you to give it a try, see what comes up for you, what your heart is trying to tell you. Maybe even write it down and post it somewhere that you can see it every day, as a reminder. Stay with it for the whole year and see where you are at the end of the year, how much it has become a part of your life. Then take it with you into the future, shift perception, raise expectation and burst into a new horizon and make it a happy new year.
